- Original Document: Ensure you submit the original birth certificate for attestation.
- Photocopies: The Ministry of External Affairs does not legalize photocopies.
- Validity of Apostille: The validity of an apostille (MEA stamp) is generally 6 months, but some countries may accept older apostilles.
To attest a birth certificate in India for use abroad, you need to get it notarized, then attested by the State Home Department (or equivalent), followed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and finally, by the relevant embassy or consulate of the country where the certificate will be used
The following countries are not members of the Apostille Convention and any document requested by these countries will receive a certification. It is to be noted that some of the countries listed below may require additional legalization by a Consulate or Embassy office.
